The Buzz…
Kenny Leon served as Artistic Director of the Alliance Theatre Company for an unprecedented 11 years. After a brief exodusus from Atlanta (to Broadway), he returned and in 2002 teamed with Director Jane Bishop to launch True Colors Theatre Company.
True Colors Theatre Company launched its inaugural three-play season in October 2003 with a critically-acclaimed production of August Wilson’s classic work, Fences. Most notebly Leon was entrusted to deliver the vision of the final two plays in August Wilson’s epic, 10-play canon, the five time Tony-nominated Gem of the Ocean (pre-Broadway and Broadway), and Radio Golf (pre-Broadway and Broadway in Spring 2007).
Directing the revival of A Raisin in the Sun, it went on to register the highest-grossing box office sales for a drama in Broadway history. In Fall 2006, Kenny directed the film “A Raisin in the Sun”, featuring the Broadway cast, which aired on ABC in Fall 2007.
