Trending Tweets: Motrin Minces Words with Moms

It reminds me of a scene from “What Women Want” with Mel Gibson where all the PR gurus sat around the office trying to figure out how to get women to buy Advil.  Well it seems Motrin stole the idea, but it didn’t work.  It backfired thanks to real time public opinion aka Twitter.

Motrin, and the PR guru that’s probably going to get fired like in “What Women Want,” is getting the message loud and clear today with twitter’s trending topic #motrinmoms.  Last night we received our first twitter from @AMamasBlog and by this morning the battleground was clearly defined.

In it’s ad, Motrin implies among other things that if you carry your baby in a baby sling close to your body (baby wearing as new moms call it), then you should also buy a supply of motrin, pop it all the time and make them overwhelmingly rich. Of course from the twitter, people are picking out different pieces of the ad that’s upsetting to them.  Here’s news for Motrin:  My oldest is 21 and youngest is 13 and there’s two in the middle.  I carried them in a baby sling, kept them very close and my back don’t hurt.

Moreover, I have the best kids in the world.  As I blog this post, we are all in the same room together.  Three of us are watching TV together.  I’m blogging and my son is a few steps away on the desktop.  We’re in the “family room.”  Do I need a motrin from all this family bonding?

Oh wait, I just watch the Children’s Motrin ad where the Mom’s says she could KILL to get some sleep and compares being committed to raising her kids.

Let me help Motrin out here.  Here’s when I actually might need a motrin. Mom’s might need a Motrin when:

• When we’re stuck at work and missing the PTA, but the boss can go play Golf pretending to be at a business meeting
• When we’re stuck in traffic and worrying about making it to after school on time and full of guilt for being the last mommy to pick up her precious darlings
• When our presidential candidates admit that we actually have a “glass” ceiling and no woman is getting through this time
• When society tells me I can’t discipline my child but a judge could try them as an adult
• When I can’t tweet my friends on twitter because they are all pissed off at motrin.

You might need a Tylenol or Advil after you watch these Motrin Ads.
