[Atlanta, GA] Today, Atlanta’s Courageous Church congregation will wrap more than $20,000 in toys and gifts for 500 youth of Frank L. Stanton Elementary School. The wrapping event, taking place at Frank L. Stanton Elementary School, is located at 1625 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., SW. Atlanta, GA 30314. The church, led by 29-year old Morehouse graduate Shaun King who is often referred to as “The Facebook Pastor”, raised the funds utilizing “new media” and social network outlets including Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, various blogs and a specialized website created for the initiative www.500toys.org – sparking the interest of nearly 300 donors from 22 states. On tomorrow, the 500 youth will be given toys and uniforms during a special holiday celebration beginning at 1 p.m. at Frank L. Stanton Elementary.
“With a number of Atlanta’s recreation centers shut down because of budget cutbacks and the city mired in the talk of a brutal death penalty case, one toy and one uniform for every child at Stanton Elementary may not pay the bills, but I bet it puts ear to ear grins on the faces of some students and teachers that are living through some pretty tough times,” says Shaun King, the founder of The Courageous Church and former Morehouse College Student Government President. “Household budgets are just as lean as city budgets, but what I learned through our fundraiser for these beautiful children is that people will come together when they believe in the cause.”

”Shaun and the staff of The Courageous Church are excited, but we’re even more excited than they are,” added Dr. Marlo Barber, Principal of Frank L. Stanton Elementary School. “They are such a blessing. This is going to mean so much to our families and to us as well. It keeps the staff motivated to do even more when people who don’t even know us are willing to share their time, joy, and let’s not forget money, with us!”
