Is Oprah Depressed?
Tuesday evening, arrived home a little late but quickly caught up to the events of the day with my twitter while CNN played in the background. Larry King was on. From the Larry King show filled with Oprah guru’s, one would have thought Oprah had died. It seem to be that serious.
After a few moments and clips into the show, realized the gurus were only doing damage control for their products – spirituality and weight loss – even to the point diagnosing Oprah as depressed. Wow!
Guessed they wanted us to assume that surely she’s depressed with all these experts and extravagants at her beck and call. No way the top selling books and “favorites things” could fail to deliver the promises of pure happiness all the time in every moment of life. No way a woman of Oprah’s stature, wealth, and “yes” folks would find comfort in food.
LARRY KING, HOST: Tonight, Oprah goes public with her personal struggle — angry, embarrassed, depressed. She’s at war with her weight again. Team Oprah is here and ready to reveal how she’s fighting back. Personal trainer Bob Greene, Dr. Mehmet Oz and “The Secret’s” Michael Beckman tell us what Oprah is doing to help herself.
Can they help you? [from Larry King Transcripts]
But wait, this is the same person who lost a beloved pet, took heat for supporting America’s now President-Elect (T-13 days and counting at post time) and whom we heard on her talk show ask recording star Beyonce how is it to be considered somebodies “wife” instead of “girlfriend.” Watched the show twice this past year and picked up on that.
Not a daily watcher of the Oprah show nor have we met Ms. O, but 40 lbs does not come out of thin air nor it is the be all to end all. But if one is putting on “airs”, 40lbs will catch up to you. It doesn’t take a guru to know that our bodies will quickly respond to what’s truly going on with us.
Why would the guru’s need to step to Larry King to discuss Oprah? Hasn’t she created a large enough platform for them within the context of her own show. Wonder if watching Larry King was as difficult for Oprah as it was for the rest of the world?
Moral of the story? Billionaires get lonely too? But keep the facade going on TV.
