Michelle Obama Hopes to “Balance” America for Working Women

January 22, 2009

As First Lady, Michelle Obama looks forward to continuing her work on the issues close to her heart — supporting military families, helping working women balance career and family, and encouraging national service.

We have our first glimpse of the tasks at hand for First Lady Michelle Obama.  The excitement is quickly building after the newly revamped Whitehouse.gov website launched with the first lady’s page taunting “helping working women balance career and family.”

In the early nineties, “work life balance” became a topic of discussion as did “outsourcing.”  Rather than balance work and budgets allowing work-from-home with the then growing technology, companies shipped jobs overseas.  Today the America family and economy suffers for it the lapse in judgement.

Jobs were taking from Americans rather than cut the work week and increase productivity. Even in the wake of losing their jobs altogether, many American workers cannot fathom cutting back their income by 5 to 8 hours. Well let’s put it this way – lose 5 hours or 40 hours?  Fact of the matter, most companies are in jeopardy and looking for dire solutions.

While we’ve stimulated the global economy, we’ve done little to balance budget, life, and future at home.  The same technology companies are using to do our jobs overseas have not found their way into American work places.  Simple technologies applied to social networking have not found their way into the work place.  Rather than researching how twitter, youtube, ustream, myspace, facebook, linkedin, yammer and other social networks are connecting the world, companies are failing by the hour.

The minute this post is finished, it will distribute to over 60,000 with a simple few clicks of a button and travel around world sans email in a matter of seconds.  The post will be available in audio automatically  (look up). In a matter of a few more seconds, we will receive replies and the next wave of communication will begin.  If necessary, we could discuss it with an infinite audience live via web stream in audio and/or video.

The world is getting smaller and competitive.  The benefit to work life balance besides a profitable bottom line would be the time giving to family and community.  Communities filled with family for an extra day during the week.  Parents freely giving of the time to schools and community projects.  Three day weekends stimulating the economy with more shopping and entertainment.

The perfect scenario would be a 4-day/35 hour work week; 5 hours work from home.  Whereas companies are in jeopardy and whereas work-from-home is far from reality in America, another scenario would be for companies to reduce the work week 5 to 8 hours.  Something has to give.  Whereas the employee is concerned with losing 5 to 8 hours pay – again 5 to 8 or 40?

Bottom line – you can take the job out of America, but you can’t get America to do the job proficiently.  Don’t take my word.  Let’s wait for our First Lady.

That Michelle & Barack Kinda Love

January 21, 2009

President Barack Obama maybe poised to save the world, the American economy, and fix all that ails us, but some can’t help but talk and blush over that Michelle & Barack kind of love. Together they have appeared on countless magazine covers with story after story.  Yet their gaze says it all.

More than talk of the dress, the tux and the speech come Wednesday morning after President Obama came into power, was the talk of the gaze he gave his wife time and time again the night before.  That’s love!

That’s Love! as we would say to Whitney Houston having once proclaimed the same of she and Bobby Brown. That’s love! we could say to Kim Porter who once proclaimed the same of she and Diddy. That’s love we would say to LisaRaye, Madonna, the McCartneys, the Hogans, and even when most of us look in the mirror.

That’s love! we could say to all the tatooed folks with each others name on their arm that they later try to turn into flowers.  It’s love because Michelle and Barack don’t have to say it or proclaim it.  It’s love when you see Barack reach his hand out without looking and like a magnet Michelle floats over to him.  It’s love when you see her antennas go up with his words paying attention without paying attention.

She’s got Barack’s back.  Barack’s got Michelle’s back.  That’s love when you decide you’re going to take on the world together because you’re so sure that whatever comes your way you are ready for it.  That’s love when you can convince others to love and support a man because you know his heart and mind so well and trust he’ll live up to your word.

That’s love not because they say it, but because we see it.  Michelle and Barack Obama got that special kind of love.

Thousands Listened to TheObamaCall For Inauguration

January 20, 2009

National Buzz – DryerBuzz & Company launched The Obama Call (www.TheObamaCall.com) in time for thousands to enjoy the 2009 Inauguration of President Barack H. Obama Tuesday, January 20, 2009.  Knowing some readers would be in the middle of their work day, behind fire walls, and away from PC’s and TV, DryerBuzz provided a simulcast and live national discussion for the Oath of America’s new president.

Listeners from Virginia to Washington State logged on or called The Obama Call (www.TheObamaCall.com) to listen live.  In the middle of President Obama’s speech, there were reports websites streaming the oath ceremony had come to a slow pace if not complete halt.  However, the coverage continued via The Obama Call while sites came back to stream.

“While the country moves ahead with technology, many of our devices are forbidden in the work place and not everyone has the latest gadgets nor cable. We wanted to be there for our readers in this historic time,” says Yalanda Lattimore editor of DryerBuzz.com and host of DryerBuzz & Company.  “We were happy to have met the challenge and be a part of history.”

DryerBuzz & Company has operated such hot lines before such as with the March to Jena and other blog breaking events.  The live and interactive news source is well know around social networks with a reputation for getting the story out now.

DryerBuzz.com has been online under the same brand since 2002, coming to the Internet after a stint in local salons with the buzz behind the buzz.
