Volunteer – Hosea Feed The Hungry Focuses on JOBS for EASTER
March 31, 2009
Hosea Feed The Hungry starts this year off with their 40th year anniversary and the Easter Dinner Series is a time Hosea Feed The Hungry & Homeless spiritually celebrate with our brethren.
“The central message Hosea Feed The Hungry is focusing on is the nonprofit community needs jobs. If there are companies like our newest partner, A J Wright and RYLA, that have entry level jobs we need to know who they are and we need access to those jobs. We have been doing all we can, and for the most part are overwhelmed with the calls and requests for rental and mortgage assistance over the last several months. Therefore, we have to keep this issue before the public and the city so that we won’t be lulled into thinking that we have and some kind of a turnaround in this economy because we have not yet seen that. So all nonprofits in the city need additional funding for rental and mortgage assistance that can be used before a person is being evicted. For this Easter instead of passing out Easter baskets, we will focus on partnering with companies that can supply jobs and conduct mini-job fairs throughout the month of April and May,” states Executive Director, Mrs. Elisabeth Omilami.
WHAT: 8th Annual Hosea Feed The Hungry & Homeless EASTER DINNER
WHEN: EASTER SUNDAY, April 12th, 2009
WHERE: CITY HALL EAST- 640 NORTH AVE ATLANTA, GA 30308
For those who would like to support HFTH efforts, you can participate as sponsors in a number ways:

BookBuzz: Before I Forget by Leonard Pitts Jr. – novel of three generations of black men bound by blood
March 28, 2009
Leonard Pitts Jr. in a recent commentary for CNN…
Once you’ve gotten black women and men to raise their children in the context of families, you still have to deal with the fact that those families need places to live, jobs to support them and doctors to keep them healthy, all of it elusive as long as structural discrimination persists in all those areas. Read More
While the commentary has us thinking, Pitts latest novel may give us some answers.
Before I Forget by Leonard Pitts Jr. (Author)
This powerful novel of three generations of black men bound by blood — and by histories of mutual love, fear, and frustration — gives author Leonard Pitts the opportunity to explore the painful truths of black men’s lives, especially as they play out in the fraught relations of fathers and sons. As 50-year-old Mo tries to reach out to his increasingly tuned-out son Trey (who himself has become an unwed teenaged father), he realizes that the burden of grief and anger he carries over his own estranged father has everything to do with the struggles he encounters with his son. Part road novel, part character study, and part social critique, and written in compulsively readable prose, Before I Forget is the work of a major new voice in American fiction. Pitts knows inside and out the difficulties facing black men as they grapple with the complexities of their roles as fathers.
