Live Chat with “Obsessed” Producer Will Packer
March 9, 2009
The Cut — Beyonce has come a long way, but not far enough from the debates that ensue following several projects, as evidence by the latest beef with Etta James over her role in Cadillac Records, not to mention upsetting Aretha Franklin. R-E-S-P-E-C-T has been hard to come by for Beyonce. Perhaps she just needed the right producer. We’ve got the buzz…
On April 24, 2009, “Obsessed” starring Beyonce Knowles, Idris Elba and Ali Larter will premiere. This is Beyonce’s first film where no singing is involved. The trailer is already rolling in theaters and buzzing around the net. This looks to be the role that will deliver Beyonce her true acting creds and quiet some debates.
The films producer, Will Packer is bringing the buzz to DryerBuzz. He has had an amazing track record being able to secure top talent in music and entertainment for his projects. Mr. Packer has been named by Daily Variety magazine as a producer to watch and has been recognized by many other publications for his quality work in film making. With each project, DryerBuzz and Company goes in for the buzz behind the buzz.
As Co-Founder and Chairman of Rainforest Films, Packer is responsible for producing and overseeing the company’s studio financed and self-financed films and distribution projects. He co-founded Rainforest Films with his partner Rob Hardy in the summer of 1994 while both were engineering students at Florida A & M University.
This partnership has also resulted in Packer overseeing production and distribution budgets of numerous urban-themed releases including Trois: The Escort, Motives and the independent breakout hit film, The Gospel and Stomp The Yard, which held the #1 position at the box office for two weekends in January of 2007,
Packer also enjoyed the success of This Christmas, which starred Regina King, Loretta Devine, Delroy Lindo, Mekhi Phifer, Columbus Short and Chris Brown.
