Jackie Robinson Foundation Hosts 4th Annual JAZZ on the Grass October 3, 2009

August 24, 2009

The Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF), a premier scholarship organization that supports deserving college students with financial need, will host the 4th Annual JAZZ on the Grass benefit concert (JAZZ) on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Held at the private Sherman Oaks estate of noted director and producer Oz and Lynne Scott, JAZZ features three-time Grammy Award winner James Ingram and a list of nationally and internationally-renowned artists including multi-Grammy nominated recording artist Patrice Rushen, Grammy and Tony nominated singer/songwriter Brenda Russell, and world-class drummer and percussionist Ndugu.

Although new to the west coast, JAZZ on the Grass’ historic roots span nearly five decades. Inspired by the March on Washington, Jackie and Rachel Robinson organized their first jazz concert at their home in Stamford, Connecticut, in 1963 to raise bail money for jailed civil rights activists including the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The high-profile concert attracted some of the most iconic names in jazz including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, and Dizzy Gillespie. After Jackie Robinson’s death in 1972, the concert became an east coast JRF fundraiser, eventually becoming a signature west coast event when the Foundation opened its Los Angeles home in 2005. West coast performers have included: Lalah Hathaway, Marcus Miller, Brian McKnight, Dave Koz, Jeffrey Osborne, Patti Austin, and George Duke.

theBNRC Free E-Tips – How To Create A Blog in 5 Minutes

August 22, 2009

how to create blog in 5 minsNot everyone wants to manage a blog.  However a blog, because of its software,  is the most manageable way to share information, photos, video, and create content online.

Unlike many social networks, blogs are not blocked by filters such as in the work place or public access points.  Blogs allow the blogger to control the content, size, message, and feedback.  If self hosted on a paid service, one can also control and keep ownership of the archives.

If creating original content, one might want to launch the content from a blog allowing it to then land at various social networks to maintain ownership and integrity.

Not everyone wants to be a blogger.  But if you want to share information and create content online with ease, think about using a blog.  The e-tip download available in the post will have you blogging in 5 minutes.

We chose a service available online called Posterous.com.  With Posterous.com you can blog from any where that you have an email connection.  Posting is instant and is compatible with many social networks for updating on the fly.

Even though we manage a full daily original content blog, we also use Posterous to update our blog and social networks when we’re out spreading the buzz.  Using Posterous, with one email, we can update DryerBuzz.com, Facebook, twitter, and subscribers with our updates.  This allows us to scoop other sources. Additionally, the syndication and page views are awesome. See how we use our Posterous, then Try it. Click Here to Download free how-to e-tip from theBNRC.

Atlanta we were invited… to get the buzz behind the buzz

ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) has revealed plans for ASCAP Presents… Women Behind the Music, a new series of events produced exclusively by the women of ASCAP’s Rhythm & Soul Team.  The program is designed to encourage and recognize women in the music creator community, and will feature showcases and educational panels in Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York.

“We’re very excited to launch this new series,” said Nicole George, ASCAP Assistant Vice President of Membership, Rhythm & Soul.  “Whether established or just starting out in their careers, our goal is to encourage the professional development and career advancement of our talented female songwriters and artists, and recognize their positive contributions to music.”

The “Women Behind the Music” series kicks off in Atlanta on Tuesday, August 25 with a high-profile showcase taking place at 595 North Lounge, 595 North Ave. NW, (North Ave. & Northside Dr.).  Headlining the showcase is Grammy Award-winning songwriter Kandi Burruss, who has written songs for several major artists, including Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys and TLC.  Burruss, a former member of R&B girl group Xscape, was named ASCAP Songwriter of the Year at the organization’s Rhythm & Soul Music Awards in 2000, and is the first female to receive this honor at the annual awards ceremony.  Burruss is currently working on her sophomore solo CD, titled B.L.O.G.S., scheduled for release this fall, and is the newest addition to Bravo’s hit reality show, The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Completing the line-up for the Atlanta showcase is Alja Jackson aka Jesse James (Leftfield/Interscope Records), Mika Means (Universal/Motown Records), Myxx (Drift City Records), and Brittany Street (Good ComPENy).  The showcase will also feature DJ Traci Steele of 95.5 The Beat, who is Musiq Soulchild’s official DJ.  The event starts at 9:00pm and is free and open to the public, 18 & over with ID.  Donations will be accepted at this event for Susan G. Komen For The Cure – Greater Atlanta Area.

Other events in the “Women Behind the Music” series include a panel in New York on September 2nd, a showcase in Los Angeles on September 8th, and a special interview in New York on September 9th.  More details to be announced.
