BBC News – Giving up smoking ‘raises diabetes risk’
Giving up smoking sharply increases the risk of developing type-two diabetes, a US study suggests.
Researchers found quitters had a 70% increased risk of developing type-two diabetes in the first six years without cigarettes compared with non-smokers.
This is because they tend to put on weight.
However, the Annals of Internal Medicine study stressed that this should not be used as an excuse to carry on smoking.
DryerBuzz.com — This news made this blogger want a cigarette bad. Seven months smoke free, this is not good news since I’m now 20 plus pounds heavier. What time is the next smoke break? What kind of news is this?
The weight gain is upsetting enough. The result of increased appetite, the gain may also have to do with “working through” smoke breaks. Smoking came with excercise by way of a trek to the smoking area two to three times a day. Not smoking means sitting all day and eating. Gotta get moving (without smoking) again.
It was a battle to quit smoking. Now we have to fight off diabetes too.
