What’s the buzz with President Obama in the rain? #theBuzz
May 31, 2010
PhotoBuzz: U.S. President Barack Obama speaks in the pouring rain during a Memorial Day event at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, May 31, 2010. The President said he would stick around a bit to see if storms would let up but ushered everyone back to their cars in fear of lightening. C-Span and CNN will more likey carry remarks if made. Click photo to see more.
Meanwhile, conservatives viva la Fox News try once again to redeem the many errors of former President George Bush. The network called attention to President Obama’s timing for a vacation during Memorial Day and in the middle of an oil spill. Fox News attempt to attach “Katrina” and “OIL” to Obama is FAIL. Katrina and OIL equals Bush all day and every day. Try again.
Clearly, from the photobuzz above, the President is prepared to weather the storm of criticism.

Salon Social: Chemicals in Our Natural Hair: The Scoop on the Goop – Atlanta Natural Hair Care
May 30, 2010
Without trying, I’ve been sporting “natural hair” for the better part of 14 years. After having three girls and a son, my hair was the last to get attention. So one day, I cut it off. All of it off. Spent the better part of “being natural” at the barber shop, until one day I just couldn’t handle the fellas anymore. OMG the conversations.
So what’s on my head right now. I think its been about two seasons since my last cut. Was trying to make it to summer. Now that summer is here, I’ve started to like my tresses. But I’m really not into the morning routine. I’m used to the convenience of get up and go.
I also noticed something about the myriad of product available. Natural may not be as natural as we think. During the warmer months, I noticed serious eye irritation which I thought was pollen. Turns out it may be my favorite hair products. Because of sweating, I can’t do products in the summer. So I went on a search for answers and truly natural products.
When we launched DryerBuzz.com’s Virtual Salon Social, found a great resource in Atlanta Natural Hair Resource and the information below from Naturi Beauty Blog.
You may be asking yourself, what those “impossible words” mean anyway? Here to clear the confusion, I’ve gathered a list of popular chemicals that masquerade themselves in our hair products, their potential effects and some safer more natural alternatives/replacements.
Mineral Oil- Mineral! By far, there is nothing nutritious or beneficial about this ingredient, even though the title suggests differently. This is one of the most widely used oils and is generally used in large amounts. It is a crude, petroleum derived oil and it coats the hair shaft preventing the flow of nutrients and intake of moisture. Picture a bird caught in an oil spill. This my sisters, is your hair on Mineral Oil!
Alternative-almond oil, olive oil
Petroleum- How many of us have used Vaseline to slick our hair back, smooth our edges or add shine? Well even if you personally didn’t, this was the weapon of choice for a lot of households that some of us grew up in. And what a lethal weapon it is! Petroleum is a major pore clogger, and our hair & scalp coated with this stuff equals minimal hair growth and blocked nutrients.
Alternative-coconut oil, shea butter

Political Times – 2010’s Debates Still Trapped in the 1960s – NYTimes.com
May 29, 2010
Now Tiger Woods plays annually at Augusta, historically an all-white club. The African-American president of the United States has said that his own relatively privileged daughters should not benefit from affirmative action programs when applying to college. Americans the president’s age and younger are inclined to assume that one can question the responsibilities of government and private entities when it comes to race without necessarily being dismissed as a racist — even if it does make them, as in the case of Mr. Paul, something of an ideological outlier.
Why then, to quote the ubiquitous Bono, is our political debate so stuck in a moment it cannot get out of? In part, it is probably because so many of the Americans most engaged in politics — as well as those who run campaigns and comment endlessly on them — are old enough to remember Altamont. It is your classic self-fulfilling prophecy: the more the ’60s generation dominates the political discourse, the less that discourse engages younger voters, and the longer the boomers hold sway over our politics.
On a deeper level, though, this all probably has as much to do with our basic human tendency toward moral clarity.
