Did Kathleen Parker use Toni Morrison to call President Barack Obama a punk “bullet in the chamber holla!” (bitch)
June 30, 2010
After Kathleen Parker wrote . . .
If Bill Clinton was our first black president, as Toni Morrison once proclaimed, then Barack Obama may be our first woman president.
She then wrote . . .
No, I’m not calling Obama a girlie president. But . . . he may be suffering a rhetorical-testosterone deficit when it comes to dealing with crises, with which he has been richly endowed.

Buzzing Report: Harvard scholar’s arrest at home avoidable | The Associated Press | Henry Louis Gates | James Crowley
June 30, 2010
The independent review said “misunderstandings and failed communications” and a “certain degree of fear” each man had for the other led to the six-minute dispute that ended with the renowned black scholar being placed in handcuffs by the veteran white Cambridge police sergeant.
Sgt. James Crowley arrested Henry Louis Gates Jr. for disorderly conduct at his Cambridge home July 16 while investigating a possible burglary. Gates alleged he was a victim of racial profiling. Charges were later dropped.
The conflict sparked a national debate on race relations, and President Barack Obama invited both men to the White House for a “beer summit.”

Captain Mike Ellis said in an interview posted on You Tube that the boats are conducting controlled burns to get rid of the oil.
“They drag a boom between two shrimp boats and whatever gets caught between the two boats, they circle it up and catch it on fire. Once the turtles are in there, they can’t get out,” Ellis said.

Broadway Sees Benefits of Building Its Black Audience – NYTimes.com | What [Black] Women Want
June 29, 2010
Thats what a focus group of a dozen African-American women concluded about the musical Memphis last summer when they were asked to assess the shows tagline, The Birth of Rock n Roll.
But after seeing artwork featuring Felicia, the black R&B singer in the show, and after hearing about the turbulent romance between the character and a white D.J., the women in the focus group said the show was much more up their alley.
With that in mind, the producers changed the Memphis tagline before opening on Broadway to: His Vision, Her Voice. The Birth of Rock n Roll.

The last person out of the closet? The bisexual male – CNN.com
June 29, 2010
“There is a whole list of assumptions of what my life might be like, that somehow she is some sort of front for me because I’m not willing to accept I’m gay,” he said. “People are confused by bisexuality. There’s just not a lot of support for people who fall in the middle like me.”
More than 50 percent of Americans accept the idea of a gay or lesbian relationship, signaling growing support for same-sex couples, according to a Gallup poll in May. The poll, however, doesn’t address the issue of bisexuality, often defined as having a romantic attraction to both men and women. It’s a sexual orientation some advocacy groups and researchers say remains challenging because neither the gay community nor the straight population advocates for men and women who are attracted to both sexes.
