Not Wrong but “Wronged” by Fox, Contestant haunted by game show answer | Reuters

December 31, 2010

Gabe Okoye says the despair he felt on “Million Dollar Money Drop” was even worse than millions saw on the Fox gameshow – and countless YouTube views – after he appeared to give a wrong answer that cost $800,000.

But the support his girlfriend Brittany Mayti has given him from moment one in the ordeal has carried him through — even after the startling revelation, weeks after the taping, that he got the answer right.

“I was haunted for a long time between the taping and the actual airing. I was distraught,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I’d like to know someone who has lost money like that and just smiled about it.”

He even insists the excruciating scenes of agony on the show “were the edited version of how I really was. It was a lot worse than that.”

DryerBuzz.com — We felt and still feel Okoye’s despair with talks the couple was invited back for a second chance. After being punked on TV, the buzzing opinion is that the couple should turn down the appearance and Fox should #cutthecheck. The show should probably be canceled. Who can watch without second guessing every money drop. The man was brought to his knees after making it so far to have victory snatched back in front of a live studio audience. Unforgivable. #CuttheCheck Fox

Backfire in Scott “Kidney” Case: Mississippi Gov unethical over jail release: surgeon | Reuters

December 31, 2010

(Reuters) – Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour acted unethically when he suspended a woman’s life sentence on condition she donate a kidney to her sister, a prominent transplant surgeon said on Thursday.

Barbour agreed to free sisters Gladys and Jamie Scott, who have served 16 years of a double life sentence for an armed robbery in which nobody was hurt and $11 was stolen. The case has drawn national attention.

A condition of Gladys Scott’s release is that she donate a kidney to her sister in an operation that should be performed urgently, Barbour said in a statement on Wednesday. She had agreed to be a donor for her sister, who requires dialysis.

Barbour, chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association, is considering whether to run for president in 2012.

Never mind the issue of figuring out how two newly released parolee’s would pay for a kidney transplant and subsequent health care. The kidney was secondary to the primary issue of justice. Just because the story looked good in the headlines and grabbed additional and emotional momentum, the press went with it. In hindsight, the primary issue justice is lost now with the latest backfire. Can this case come back into focus? Is Mississippi trying to save face money or both? To flip the script, if a person is let out of jail to donate a kidney, then what’s to stop prisons from becoming organ factories. Now we’re really losing focus. Let’s get back to JUSTICE.

December 31, 2010

The Obama administration has been hitting us with websites left and right since winning office thanks to social media.  So its no surprise the government this year has a few domains to help with your New Year’s resolutions.  Some have been around a minute but may have a fresh look and feel. Follow the buzz below as you make your resolves for 2011:

1) Improving Your Finances

MyMoney.gov is a consumer finance website created by more than 20 government entities and designed to help you meet your financial goals at any point in your life. The site offers reliable information on a wide variety of topics such as how to handle debt and credit. You’ll also find tips on creating a spending plan, how to save and invest, and how to plan for retirement.

2) Losing Weight

If your goal is to lose weight this year, then MedlinePlus.gov can help. This website by the National Institutes of Health will help you achieve your goal of losing weight through a healthier lifestyle. It has an interactive weight management tutorial and offers tips to help you control your weight. Learn how to calculate your body mass index and determine the right portion size for your meals.

3) Quitting Smoking

More than 70 percent of smokers want to permanently stop smoking, according to a poll by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC. For many, the new year is the ideal time to quit smoking. The CDC has many resources to help you kick the habit, including cessation program materials, information on the benefits of quitting smoking and free educational materials.

4) Drinking Less

Many people might decide they want to drink less this year, especially after the holiday season. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism has a website called Rethinking Drinking that is dedicated to helping you achieve that goal. It offers information to help you see your drinking patterns, identify signs of alcohol abuse, and has tools to help you make a change, among other things.

5) Getting a Job

Unfortunately for millions of people, getting a job is more than a New Year’s resolution. If a new job is one of your priorities for 2011, USA.gov, the official portal of the U.S. Government, can help.  The site has a section dedicated to helping you find a job, which features links to many employment resources including career centers, state and federal jobs databases and employment assistance and services.

6) Exercise More

Exercise is more than just activity; it’s an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. People who don’t exercise are more likely to have health problems. MedlinePlus.gov has an interactive tutorial called Exercising for a Healthy Lifestyle which explains the benefits of exercising and offers tips for starting and maintaining an exercise routine for any time of the year.

7) Get a Better Education

The federal government can be an important resource if you’re looking to get a higher education. Learn about financial aid, the tax benefits of education, overseas study programs and how to calculate your grade point average. You can also search for accredited colleges and universities and learn about the GI Bill for people serving in the military.

Personalize your food consumption at MyPyramid.gov, where you will find interactive tools to help you make better food choices based on national dietary guidelines. Get to know the pyramid and read about eating tips to help you live a healthier life.

10) Take a Trip

Favorite Word We Tagged in 2010 #ClaimJumper i.e. Gabrielle Union, Fantasia, “Bombshell” McGee | You Get The Picture

December 31, 2010

Dwayne Wade and girlfriend Gabrielle Union attend the 26th birthday party of basketball star, LeBron James, at the Coco Deville lounge in Miami's Gansevoort Hotel. Marketing Marvel: James' handlers are creating an eleven-stop birthday tour for companies who want their products and brand names shoved in front of young hipsters. We realize #golddigging had grown to a new level when Tiger Woods situation popped off towards the end 2009 when his mistresses  attempted to seek restitution for their pain and suffering of being girl number one two three and so on.  It was just the year before that Bob Whitfield said his former wife Real Housewives of Atlanta‘s Sheree Whitfield had taken gold digging to a #platinum level. Well where do we go from there?

Try #claimjumper which we liken to the days of gold rushing.  Online we found one such definition as “one who wrongfully or illegally seizes and holds the place of another. “

In 2010 #ClaimJumpers were coming out of the wood work or shall we say gold mine.  The late Elizabeth Edwards once said of her #claimjumper, mistress to her former husband and presidential candidate John Edwards, that she believed the woman actually wanted to move into her life.  Sandra Bullock’s #claimjumper,  “Bombshell” McGee, was living her life with Sandra’s husband Jesse while Sandra was on location making Oscar and award winning movies.

#ClaimJumpers are a mess.  Some lay claim long enough to become title holders, get the ring and have the wedding. Next thing you know they are sitting front row at an awards show or dancing down the red carpet.   How come every time I see Gabrielle Union with Dwayne Wade, in my head I hear an echo from the Tyler Perry movie Daddy’s Little Girls  “get away from my daddy trick!” Is it just me?

Karma is a mofo as many come to learn. They say how you get them is how you lose them.  Even when #claimjumpers don’t want to give up the claim, their reputation lingers.  Remember people smile in your face, but all the time they want to take your place.  That’s a #claimjumper for you.

Wonder what 2011 will reveal . . .

Who Tweets? Basic demographic breakdown of that population | Pew Research Survey Results

December 31, 2010

Buzz Excerpt from Pew Research Center . . .

Some of the groups who are notable for their relatively high levels of Twitter use include:
  • Young adults: Internet users ages 18-29 are significantly more likely to use Twitter than are older adults.
  • African-Americans and Latinos: Minority internet users are more than twice as likely to use Twitter as are white internet users.
  • Urbanites: Urban residents are roughly twice as likely to use Twitter as rural dwellers.
Women and the college-educated are also slightly more likely than average to use the service.

These findings about Twitter in the Pew Internet Project’s regular tracking survey match the tests we ran on two omnibus surveys in October. Those omnibus surveys conducted by our polling partner, Princeton Survey Research Associates International, are weekly surveys onto which organizations can insert questions. In two differently weekly surveys in October we also found that 8% of internet users said “yes” to the specific Twitter question.1

Buzzing Opinion: Browns Apology “Piece of Pseudo-Apologetic Doublespeak” EW.com | Rants of 2010 Brown vs RazB

December 30, 2010

NEW YORK - OCTOBER 27: Chris Brown attends GQ's The Gentlemen's Ball at The Edison Ballroom on October 27, 2010 in New York City. (Photo by John Lamparski/Getty Images)

That’s a pretty piece of pseudo-apologetic doublespeak. Brown blames the target of his hateful outburst in the same breath as he expresses regret for “what transpired,” an evasive phrasing meant to spread the responsibility around instead of owning it himself. Sure, Raz-B was probably seeking attention when he tweeted about the true fact that Brown brutally assaulted an ex-girlfriend in 2009. But no one forced Brown to respond with those nasty gay-baiting epithets or to mock Raz-B’s past allegations of sexual abuse. He went there all by himself.

DryerBuzz.com — There was plenty time to stop the train wreck before it garnered enough steam to warrant an apology. Brown himself seem to question his actions in a tweet. Must have been something he learned in anger management. He probably went back and forth with his demons later tweeting his decision not to delete the tweets. Eric Benet was called out in the same tweet from RazB but obviously chose not to entertain nor defend his past relationship with Halle Berry. The celeb vs celeb rant took up the better part of the day and nearly half if not more of the top 10 trending topics on twitter. Sadly we’re now all apprised of RazB’s history with the singing group B2K. Perhaps Chris Brown is not the only one that should be apologizing.

What’s Up with that Brother? Kurt Thompkins and His Anti-Cheating Software

December 30, 2010

One new website CyberAgnetX.com wages cyber war against cheating by offering tech savvy software to catch those tech savvy cheaters.

“As a married man I can attest that social networking sites are tempting invitations for online affairs,” says Kurt Thompkins, Cyberagentx.com’s founder.” “Let’s face it, Facebook and other similar sites make it simple to cherry pick through hundreds of pictures and also reconnect with lost loves and exes.”

Thompkins went on to say that “there is an increasing number of ‘Have an affair websites’ for married people, looking for discreet hookups. I want to provide a tool to detect and verify that your mate is either faithful or lustful. If somebody is having an online affair, this software can provide a record of internet activity even if they delete their cyber footprints, giving you tangible evidence of their infidelity.”

Like any criminal activity, cheating is similar in a way that you have to use technology to assist in the catching or preventing such malicious behavior. For someone who has questions about what their mate is up to while they are absent or asleep, this computer monitoring software can have the answers to their questions waiting in a folder.
