The Canadian and US governments have begun evacuating citizens from Egypt amid continuing unrest there.
The governments said chartered flights would begin leaving for “safe havens” in Europe and Turkey on Monday.
The US state department said more than 2,400 Americans had requested assistance in fleeing the country.
Tens of thousands are protesting in central Cairo for a seventh day, defying the start of a new curfew and calling for a general strike.

He’s climbed to the top of the advertising industry, and made a name for himself, again, on the raucous world of cable news. Now, Donny Deutsch is apparently ready to take on the problems in your love life.
“It’s really just helping women understand guys,” Deutsch said of his live call-in special, “Love Calling,” which airs at 11 p.m. on Bravo. “It’s going to be really helpful, fun, and start some dialog between couples.”
Did I see Deutsch on Bravo last night and then hear him on Gayle King show this morning talking relationships? Now I know the business of broken hearted women is big business, but in this economy are we really going to use the talents of a supreme expert to get a date. Deutsch is entertaining, so no doubt he’ll be in my Bravo line of TV viewing, but really?? Am I the only one surprised? On the other hand, there is something about taking relationship advice from people with multiple marriages, and divorces. I don’t want it. So I’ll just keep watching for business tips

Mandela, 92, hospitalized for tests in S. Africa | The Associated Press

Former South African President Nelson Mandela was hospitalized for a second straight day Thursday for what his office described as routine tests but which drew concern over the health of the 92-year-old anti-apartheid icon.
Mandela undergoes regular hospital checkups, but his latest visit starting Wednesday stretched into an unusually long stay. Journalists camped outside the hospital Thursday as Mandela’s relatives and friends entered for visits. President Jacob Zuma, attending the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, is being updated on developments by the defense minister, whose department is responsible for current and former presidents’ health care, Zuma’s office said.
The presidency cautioned reporters not to put pressure on Mandela’s doctors and to give “a national hero” dignity and respect.

New Yorkers Told to Stay Home as Snow, Sleet Close Schools, Ground Flights – Bloomberg

A winter storm pounded New York with sleet, thunderstorms and 19 inches of snow, grounding hundreds of aircraft and forcing the city to close schools and non- essential offices.
While the storm was over in time for the morning commute, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said heavy snowfall had left streets too treacherous to travel.
New York City almost never takes a snow day, but today is one of those rare days,” Bloomberg said in a statement. “People should stay at home and off the roads.”
