Hair She Goes! Priceless Project, Driven to Recognize, Celebrate and Empower 1,000,000 Priceless Female Spirits (13 to 20 years old)

July 26, 2011

Ruby Taylor, M.S.W. founder of the Priceless Project™, is committed to ensuring that 1,000,000 young women and girls (13 to 20 years old) know they are PRICELESS. The Priceless Project™ offers Community Outreach and an inspirational online community at the PricelessProject.com.

The website, http://PricelessProject.com, launches July 29th, 2011 as an online resource to recognize, celebrate and empower the female priceless spirit. The Priceless Project strongly believes in Community Outreach. We will do monthly Community Outreach in Lancaster City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York City and beyond.

The PRICELESS Project originated in 2007 when master’s level social worker Ruby L. Taylor began to internalize the pain and hurt her nieces and students faced because of family, social and educational circumstances. To support and encourage her nieces and students, she wrote a poem entitled “What Are You Worth?” Ruby used the poem for hurting teenagers in Lancaster City, Pennsylvania to help encourage each student to know he or she is PRICELESS. She took a special interest in young ladies and girls in 2011 when Rowena Dixon, a fellow co-worker, expressed a need to help young ladies understand their self-worth.

Growing up in the Bronx, New York, Ruby knows firsthand what happens when a young women does not feel worthy. As a result, she was on the verge of failing out of high school and living a life she did not desire. One day, Crystal Russell, a neighborhood friend, invited her to a dinner at the Marriot Marquis with the Attorney General Janet Reno. Ruby says, “That night, sitting with high-achieving students from various NYC public high schools exposed me to possibilities. I realized I was worthy of being invited to an event for honor students, even though I was not an honor student. I was worthy of graduating high school. I was worthy of attending college and going after my goals. The one night of possibility changed my life view forever. It took the life of pain and hurt and turned it into a life of healing, hope and joy. I realized I was priceless, no matter what.”

The Clippings: Forget Boehner and Obama, You Stop Spending: The Rich Got Richer and the Broke Are Black and Hispanic | Wealth Gap Report

July 26, 2011

PewResearch.org — The median wealth of white households is 20 times that of black households [stop spending] and 18 times that of Hispanic households [ya'll stop spending too], according to a Pew Research Center analysis of newly available government data from 2009.

These lopsided wealth ratios are the largest since the government began publishing such data a quarter century ago and roughly twice the size of the ratios that had prevailed between these three groups for the two decades prior to the Great Recession that ended in 2009.

The Pew Research Center analysis finds that, in percentage terms, the bursting of the housing market bubble in 2006 and the recession that followed from late 2007 to mid-2009 took a far greater toll on the wealth of minorities than whites.

DryerBuzz.com — I normally don’t like to compare races, but this report was a down right shocker even though based on 2009.  No wonder the Suze Orman show sounds so foreign.  I know Black Women are wasting at least $60 million dollars a week on ish that makes no sense, hence the reason we initiated BlackFridayGiving to get them to think about supporting orgs, charities, and education, but I had no idea how bad it was/is.  I can hardly keep typing.  You can’t dress this up with a red bottom.   Reports don’t lie.  Well some do.  But wt???

Boehner and Obama can’t work it out, but what is the conversation under your roof when it comes to your own debt ceiling?  This is serious. It’s past time to stuff the mattress.  Stop spending.  Start saving.  Start investing.  Support your local economy, but seriously stop spending.

Hair She Goes! Tribute to Ancestors Goes LIVE Globally | AwesomeWomenHub

July 26, 2011

In Los Angeles, the tour focused upon honoring the women of our “herstory.” Women from six countries joined in through a one of a kind Virtual RE-Think Tank Conversation on facebook chat lasting more than seven hours. Germany, Ireland, Australia, England, Canada, and the United States were represented to RE-Think how we look at our ancestral past and the lessons we can bring forward today. Robin Rice, founder of the Awesome Women Hub, led the live discussion in LA while Dr. Julie Krull relayed the information from the audience through facebook chat and Dr. Carla Goddard facilitated the virtual conversation from Tampa, Florida.

The weekend culminated in a collaboratively created music video by both the live event participants and the virtual RE-Think Tank participants (See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUvinudBkSs). By design, all live and virtual attendees share the video the moment it is released.

The Clippings: No jail for mom whose son died jaywalking accident with drunk driver – TODAY.com | Raquel Nelson Update

July 26, 2011

The single mother from Marietta, Ga., who potentially faced more prison time for jaywalking than the man convicted for the hit-and-run accident that killed her 4-year-old son, was sentenced to 40 hours of community service and 12 months probation in Cobb County State Court, but then also given the option of a new trial in an unusual decision.

Whether Nelson will accept the option of the new trial was not immediately clear. Her attorney, David Savoy, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he will confer with her about the decision but that she “wants to proceed” with a new trial at this time. However, Nelson herself told Patch.com that she is unsure whether she will seek the new trial, saying, “I’m just taking [it] one day at a time.”
