Hair She Goes! 2012 Girls Gone Great Scholarship Contest Now Open | Maryland

Seeking Maryland High School Junior and Senior Girls with Vision for Scholarship Essay Contest

Hair She Goes! — Maryland Buzz — Girls Gone Great, a concept created by WomanTalk Live host Ann Quasman in 2007, is launching its fifth annual Girls Gone Great Scholarship Essay Contest.  Young women, living conscious – and conscientious lives – can win a $1,000 continuing education scholarship provided by Talkradio 680 WCBM.  WomanTalk Live is looking for a young Maryland woman, in their junior or senior year of high school, whose personal essay and references demonstrate that they are making a difference in the community today and that they have a unique vision and mission for the future.

“Maryland is a perfect springboard for the Girls Gone Great Scholarship Contest and concept,” says Ann Quasman.  “With two major metropolitan areas and the broad range of artistic, cultural, athletic, philanthropic and educational opportunities for young women statewide, their vision and ability to help others, while realizing their own dreams, is boundless.”

Dedicated to giving women of all ages more conscious conversations on her radio program, WomanTalk Live, Ms. Quasman focuses on connecting women to ideas and resources that will positively impact their lives all the while showcasing the contribution women are making in the world.

“The Girls Gone Great Scholarship Essay Contest is a fantastic way to recognize exceptional female students.  They will be rewarded for all their hard work and get funds to pursue their educational dreams,” says Senator Nancy Jacobs, Minority Leader, Maryland Senate, R-Harford and Cecil Counties.

“I ask all the girls and young women graduating this year in my district and across Maryland to wow the judges with their writing skills by entering the contest.”
The contest is open to all Maryland high school junior and seniors and their 800 (or less) single-spaced, 12-point font essay must address the following:

  1. How are you making a difference in your community?
  2. Why is making a difference important to you?
  3. How do your actions support your vision for the future?

Deadline for submissions is midnight December 31, 2011.  The winner will be announced during the first WomanTalk Live show in March, on Saturday, March 3, 2012.
