The Clippings: Family of FAMU drum major Champion held news conference regarding “culture of hazing” | 11alive.com
November 28, 2011
In Monday morning’s news conference, the family’s attorney Christopher Chestnut said the university had a history and culture of hazing that has been “covered up for generations.”
“It is time now, that we expose the truth and eradicate the root of this culture and come up with creative remedies on how to continue the excellence of FAMU’s band, but without hazing,” Chestnut said. “There is evidence of a pervasive culture of hazing at FAMU. So everything points to Robert’s death because of hazing.”
Last Wednesday, Florida A&M University president Dr. James Ammons announced the firing of long-time band director Dr. Julian White in the wake of Champion’s death. A letter from Ammons’ office cited “alleged misconduct and/or incompetence involving confirmed reports and allegations of hazing.”

The Clippings: Obese Third Grader Taken From Mom, Placed in Foster Care – Yahoo! News
November 28, 2011
A Cleveland third grader who weighed more than 200 pounds was taken from his mother after officials reportedly said she did not do enough to help the boy, who suffered from a weight-related health issue, to lose weight.
“They are trying to make it seem like I am unfit, like I don’t love my child,” the boy’s mother, who was not identified, told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “It’s a lifestyle change and they are trying to make it seem like I am not embracing that. It is very hard, but I am trying.”
Officials first became aware of the boy’s weight after his mother took him to the hospital last year while he was having breathing problems, the newspaper reported. The child was diagnosed with sleep apnea and began to be monitored by social workers while he was enrolled in a program called “Healthy Kids, Healthy Weight” at the Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.
The boy lost a few pounds, but recently began to gain some back, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported. At that point, the Department of Children and Family Services asked a juvenile court for custody of the boy, citing his soaring weight as a form of medical neglect, according to the newspaper.

The Clippings: Tyler Perry and For Better Or Worse Cast Tweet Live During World Premiere 10pm EST November 25th TBS | Follow the Buzz #ForBetter
November 25, 2011
For better or worse, here comes Tyler Perry with a new sitcom of the same title. “For the next 5 weeks, this show is going to take you on a ride through some things that are going to blow your mind,” says Perry in his latest email update. We shall see.
A bit overshadowed by the Kim Kardashian controversy, the sitcom which is separate, For Better or Worse brings us more of the couple Marcus (Michael Jai White) and Angela (Tasha Smith) from Why Did I Get Married and Why Did I Get Married Too.
I wrote every episode of this show myself, with the intention of speaking to relationships like never before. Especially, TRUST issues! If you’ve ever been through something in a relationship where the trust was violated, I promise you, this show will help speak to you. If you’re single and looking for love, we cover that too. If you’re in a relationship and you want more, but your partner doesn’t want to give you more, it’s all in this show.
I also wanted to put people on television that are doing really well, that own their own businesses and are good parents. I think it’s so important that we see ourselves doing well on TV. It will inspire our children. I put all I’ve learned into this one.
So join me tonight, I will be watching House of Payne, then the world premiere of FOR BETTER OR WORSE at 10pm EST. I will be tweeting live and responding to your messages on my message board.
Tyler Perry (@TylerPerry) and cast want to make sure we don’t miss a moment, so they will tweet live during the premiere November 25 10 PM EST. Got my ear plugs ready.

Mix the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, thyme, 1 tablespoon salt and 1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper in a bowl. Sprinkle some of the spice rub inside the cavity of the turkey. Separate the skin from the breast meat with your fingers, starting at the top of the breast and sliding to the right and left, then working down. Massage some of the rub onto the meat under the skin. Sprinkle the remaining rub on the turkey’s skin. Place the turkey on a sheet tray and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate overnight or up to 24 hours so the flavors can marry.
