Monica Pearson announced during the 4 p.m. news program today that she will retire in July after 37 years on the air on Channel 2 Action News.

“I’ve  earned the right to rest,” she told viewers at about 4:12 p.m. “No more breaking news. No more working on holidays.”

But she added, “I will miss you the viewers.”

She plans to write a book, go to grad school and work on a travel website.

We love Monica even though we have never been a fan of WSB. She is as iconic to Atlanta as Oprah is to Chicago. Her replacements have come and gone waiting for this retirement (keeping it real). But she’s doing it her way — just as she came — just as she stayed and stayed. We’re excited to see what’s next.
