The Clippings: President Obama Weighs In On Akin Comments: ‘Rape Is Rape’ | Mediaite
War on Women. Seriously, a rape debate?
President Barack Obama took questions from the White House press corps for the first time in several weeks during Monday’s press briefing. Obama was asked for his comments on Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin’s controversial statement in which he said that a woman’s body has the natural ability to abort a pregnancy that results from rape. “Rape is rape,” Obama said unequivocally.
During the press conference, Obama was asked for his thoughts on Akin’s comments. “Do you think those comments represent the views of the Republican party in general,” asked a reporter.
“The views expressed were offensive,” said Obama. “The idea that we should be parsing and qualifying and slicing what types of rape we’re talking about doesn’t make sense to the American people, and certainly doesn’t make sense to me.”
