The Clippings: UGA students hold flash mob, bring awareness to obesity | Online Athens
Hundreds of University of Georgia journalism students took part Wednesday in a flash-mob style workout routine on Herty Field.
Professor Scott Shamp, director of the New Media Institute at the university, coordinated the event he called “organized mayhem.”
“The university has an initiative to battle obesity and in my class I was trying to come up with a way to teach people how to make more responsible and healthy decisions when it comes to their … exercise and lifestyle,” Shamp said.
Shamp also wanted to incorporate the importance of media.
Using Twitter, Shamp sent 250 students in his media class a message at 2 p.m. to meet for the workout.
