Hair She Goes! BookBuzz: Read ‘An Angry Ass Black Woman’ Excerpt | Karen E. Quinones Miller | Karen Hunter Publishing
Today we realized something was missing from our daily debates, so we took to our twitter to see what was up with one of our world’s most vocal, Karen Hunter. There is something about successfull women. When these women get quiet, something is usually stirring, progressing, or being born of their greatness.
Enterprising women leave breadcrumbs. If followed, you follow a trail fron one woman to another. Clicking through from Hunter’s profile, we landed on her website where we saw the title “An Angry Ass Black Woman” and an excerpt by more than a familiar face, Essence best selling and NAACP Literary Award Nominee, Karen E. Quinones Miller.
I couldn’t get this blog post to you fast enough. Just thinking about the collaboration of these two women means it’s time to get the buzz behind the buzz. In the meantime, you can start reading the excerpt and grab a copy of the book.
Yeah, I came from a long line of Angry Ass Black Women.
Being the enterprising woman that all Angry Ass Black Women with children are, Mom did make the best of the situation. In those days, nut houses like Bellevue had this thing where if you brought a crazy person in off the street they’d give you five bucks. And back in the early sixties you could buy a family of five almost a week’s worth of dinners for five dollars. I mean, shit, a quart of milk only cost 25 cents back then, a pound of potatoes was like eight cents, and a pound of ground beef was only 59 cents. So whenever we got real broke, my moms would call my father at the hospital and tell him to break out so she could turn him back in and get five dollars.
