#DryerBuzz — Easter has forever been a great shopping day for retail. Months after Christmas, Easter is the time to go shopping again. New outfits, new shoes, new accessories, and let us not forget spending all day in the hair salon and barbershops — for all ages.
Still trying to remember if Easter ever had true commercial success. What am I saying. Doh!
However, I noticed from browsing sales circulars, something else now encroaching on Easter — Halloween. Is it me or did every costume with a hint of a pastel color just resurface? From princesses to power rangers. Don’t be a toad and forget to load up on costumes?
As if candy and eggs weren’t enough. Thank goodness schools not in on this trick yet. Nonetheless, as a mom, well beyond commercialism of the day, I can see letting kids change from church clothes to a fun costume. I can see taking this element to another level. But is this again, moving us away from true meaning of yet another spiritual observance?
Does everyone practice the religious side?
What we don’t need is for schools to get in on Easter. Moms, would you be mad, if sooon schools implemented costume Friday? Are you sending kids off to easter egg hunt in costume? Did the Easter bunny put one in the basket? Can the basket get any bigger?
Of course we ask that you give kids books for Easter — and every occasion — but this costume thing might have legs. What about kids who don’t practice Halloween? Can Easter become a makeup day?
If Halloween antics takeover Easter, will kids then come a knocking Easter afternoon?
Let me be first to say, I love when things take imagination to next level. Plus I love when commerce expands into new territory. Get ready. Here comes Peter cotton tail, and princesses, and power rangers, and all costumes pastel. Don’t get mad at me if Easter future is what I see.
