Book Clippings: Surviving Marriage Tips Book released by Jenny and Rufus Triplett, Ebony Magazine’s Couple of the Year
April 11, 2013
Jenny and Rufus Triplett are one of the few professional husband and wife teams who do just about everything together, having survived over twenty plus years of marriage being attached at the hip. The couple met in the late 80′s when Rufus was singing, writing and touring with the platinum R&B group, Ready for the World. Jenny was an intern at a radio station and headed the marketing outreach team for the act.
Now adding self-published co-authors and Amazon Best Sellers to their long list of accomplishments, “Surviving Marriage In the 21st Century: 13 Easy Tips That Can Help You Get To 20 Years and Beyond,” released February 2013, is sparking the much needed conversation about marriage and that tips needed to survive the foundation and institution of the family that it has always been.
Jenny and Rufus Triplett were honored in Ebony Magazine (February 2012 Issue) as “Couple of the Year.” They have always kept it 100 percent real during their two plus decades of matrimony. The couple has survived military service, a head on collision, incarceration, raised three young men, run their own multimedia company and are celebrating 23 plus years of successful marriage. They were also featured in the February 2013 issue of REDBOOK Magazine as marriage tipsters and named one of the Top 14 most inspiring Couples of 2013 by Black Love Forum and Essence.com writer Jai Stone.
Out of all their many trials and tribulations the Triplett’s are acknowledged for their faith, perseverance and commitment. Their seemingly plain and simple approach has resonated through their marriage tips and relationship advice given to newlyweds, engaged, dating and long term couples. Surviving Marriage Tips is more than a book of general rhetoric. Co-written with the help of an app, it is a book of relatable experiences from the viewpoint of a man and woman, in their own humorous way, who committed to the institution of marriage at the young age of 21.
The Triplett’s are the owners of Dawah International, LLC, a multimedia company which publishes Prisonworld Magazine and co-host their own weekly radio show, the Prisonworld Radio Hour, which airs on the Prisonworld Radio Network Mondays @6pm EST. Their radio show draws a global audience of over 1.2 million listeners monthly including distribution within the prison system and syndication to iTunes.
As a husband and wife team, Rufus and Jenny readily acknowledge their individual male and female perspectives but both agree that communication is the greatest survival tip. Their appearances on “Huff Post Live” talking about the disagreements married couples have as well as the reasons why weight gain should not be a reason for divorce was well received by the producers and viewers of the show. Their appearance on “Family Court with Judge Penny” and “Dr. Phil” garnered rave reviews for their parenting philosophies. Jenny has appeared on “The Mike & Juliet Morning Show” giving some words of wisdom to “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and she is also a prison and relationship pundit contributing to Loop21, Reuters and has provided commentary for CNN, Black Enterprise Magazine, MSN.com and the Los Angeles Times.

Hair She Goes! BookBuzz Excerpt from ‘Picture Perfect’ by Lakia Brandenburg | Read First Chapter
August 21, 2012
He’s Not Perfect. I’m Not Perfect. But Together We’re Picture Perfect
Enjoy an excerpt from Picture Perfect by Lakia Brandenburg
For any woman to become a beautiful bride, it has proved to be an overbearing, daunting task. I mean, really, an induction into The Wives Club involves spending six to 12 months (and in some cases two years or more) of metamorphosing into a raving bridezilla. She travels up and down the weight rollercoaster, experiences high levels of stress, and nearly has a nervous breakdown all to plan an overly priced, one-day celebration?
The bride-to-be flashes her soon-to-be role on a bedazzled top as she plans to create her royal day. There’s so much to do. She has expectations to meet. She perceives her wedding day to be the most important stage in her life. After making some final decisions on the venue and menu, she then goes three rounds of eliminations to see what lucky individuals will make the final guest list. In the end, she invites everyone: her childhood friends; associates; distance relatives; all of her coworkers—to lessen the chance of hurting someone’s feelings or leaving them out; friends of the bride and groom’s parents; oh, and the acquaintance she hasn’t spoken to in five years. All for what? For her invitees to create a gossip column the moment they tip-toe out to dictate how elegant, how hood-rich, or even to mimic the actual classical story she attempted to recreate? The perception of “getting married” is truly flawed; nevertheless, I still love weddings. They bring out the most sentimental feelings. They make me feel so sappy inside. It never fails. There’s just something about seeing the spotlight on the bride-to-be and then catching a glimpse at the groom. It’s priceless. For the bride, the pieces of her dream have finally fit together. She strolls down the aisle, with each step getting closer to her posed statue of art. (Regardless if I could sense that the love shared between the two was authentic or if they were tying the knot for convenience, I would still feel genuinely happy for the couple.) For many, the day that a woman says “I do” is a great accomplishment. It’s such a joyous occasion to see two people come together to become one. For the bride, she’s making a bold statement in front of an audience of friends, loved ones, and acquaintances that she has found her prince charming. In the presence of their invited guests, the engaged couple stares deeply into each others’ eyes. Flashbacks – of the good and trying times that brought them to where they stood on this very day – race through their heads. For the invitees, they’re witnessing before them the magic of love. But to the pair, spurts of nervousness, doubt, and confusion overshadow their minds. It’s cold feet. Everyone told them that feeling this way was normal. It was considered totally natural for the bride and groom to entertain a serving or two of these thoughts. But by the time the pastor, in his baritone voice bellowed … “Dearly beloved …” … the thoughts of uncertainty are quickly swept under the rug – either that or they’re expected to be ignored; at least that’s what the one wearing the glass slipper is thinking. The pastor continues … “… we are gathered here today. …” As the bride closes her eyes for prayer, she remembers this perfect moment envisioned some time ago. She remembers it like it was yesterday: As she spent time with her girlfriends, she would daydream about this special day. She knew that she wanted to feel like a princess while experiencing all the perks of being a part of a pretend royal court. Thousands of dollars would be spent on the elegant wedding dress that she would wear only once. From her head down to her wrist, she would be draped in her shiny best friends. She would look absolutely stunning. The day would be all about her. Now, here they stand: He, in a rented white tux. She, in her designer vintage gown. Both, ready to make a vow to live in holy matrimony. Holy?Follow the Buzz via www.lakiabrandenburg.com | Download First Chapter | Order Book
