Judith Jamison And Debra Roberts at 23rd Annual Power Lunch for Women | Seeing is Believing | What Women Want

November 22, 2009

23rd Annual Power Lunch for Women New YorkThe Citymeals-on-Wheels Power Lunch for Women has taken a permanent slot in the appointment books of New York City’s (and the country’s) leading ladies – in business, politics, entertainment…and the list goes on.

This annual event began when Citymeals founder Gael Greene and Board member Joan Weill decided to spoof the concept of the power breakfast (largely a male institution) and hold a Power Lunch exclusively for women. Since then the lunch has grown into a networking imperative for the city’s most influential ladies…and the handful of generous men who pay $10,000 for the privilege of joining them.

This year we will honor Joan Weill, along with Citymeals Vice Chair Joan Tisch, both extraordinary philanthropists and long-time friends and supporters of the Citymeals mission. Past honorees have included business mavens (Martha Stewart, Lynda Resnick, Sallie Krawcheck, Lillian Vernon) and fashion and beauty’s brightest (Diane von Furstenberg, Bobbi Brown), as well as the founding forces behind the lunch, icons of their respective fields (Barbara Walters, Liz Smith, Beverly Sills, Jessye Norman, Gloria Steinem).

Last year alone, the event raised a record breaking $1.5 million – enough to provide over 230,000 nutritious meals to our city’s homebound elderly. Follow the buzz via www.citymeals.org

Blinded by Birth: Birther Billboard Controversy In Colorado

Birther Billboard Sparks Controversy In Colorado

WHEAT RIDGE, CO – NOVEMBER 21: Phil Wolf, owner of Wolf Automotive used car dealership, stands in front of a billboard on his auto lot on November 21, 2009 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Wolf paid $2,500 to have the billboard painted, and it has sparked controversy since it was put up the day before. Wolf, 57, said the dealership received more than a thousand calls from throughout the U.S. and Canada in a single day, both in support and against the sign. ‘We’ve had death threats. We had people call and say they were going to firebomb the place last night,’ he said, adding that local police provided overnight security outside the dealership because of the threats. Wolf, a supporter of the ‘birther’ movement, questions President Obama’s citizenship. ‘We’ve got to recall our country, the election,’ he said. This guy (Obama), is illegal.’ He also blamed the President for the massacre at Ft. Hood. ‘The cavalier attitute taken by Mr. Obama towards the enemy within us is absolutely horrible. If I had a snake in the house, I would kill it,’ Wolf said. Several left-leaning advocacy groups have called on the public to boycott the auto dealership. (Photo by John Moore/Getty Images)

Project 21 Members Protest Jesse Jackson Linking Racial Identity to ObamaCare Vote | What’s Up with that Brother?

November 20, 2009

Members of the Project 21 black leadership network have risen to condemn Jesse Jackson for saying of Rep. Artur Davis (D-AL), “You can’t vote against health care and call yourself a black man,” calling Jackson’s statement divisive and likening it to the mental tactics of a antebellum slaveowner.

Declining to respond in kind, Rep. Davis told The Hill newspaper, “The best way to honor Reverend Jackson’s legacy is to decline to engage in an argument with him that begins and ends with race.”

Project 21 members were less retrained.

“Shame on Jesse Jackson for using the race card in an attempt to influence the views of another black politician,” said Project 21 Fellow Deneen Borelli.
