April 30, 2013

Atlanta Clippings — A new 2.6-mile closed course has been approved for the fourth annual 24 Hours of Booty of Atlanta in Sandy Springs.  24 Hours of Booty, Inc., which runs the official 24-hour road cycling event of the LIVESTRONG Foundation and the premier national 24-hour road cycling charity event in the country, will return to Sandy Springs for a second consecutive year, October 5-6, 2013. The Sandy Springs Booty Loop will be hosted by Mount Vernon Presbyterian School and Sandy Springs community.

24B_logo_compact_smThe event raises funds locally for cancer research and programs with the Aflac Cancer Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. In the 11-year history of 24 Hours of Booty, which began in Charlotte, N.C., more than 10,000 recreational cyclists have raised more than $9 million to help fight cancer.  Last year at the Atlanta event, 400 participants raised $191,000 to support the LIVESTRONG Foundation and the Aflac Cancer Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

“We are delighted to see the 24 Hours of Booty cycling event return to Sandy Springs. The event brings together so many riders from Georgia and more than 15 states across the country, all raising money to support cancer prevention and cures.  It is a fun event for all and a very worthy cause.  We are proud to support 24 Hours of Booty,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos.

August 29, 2012

Clipped from Press Update

“I read a story in the AJC newspaper that in the Class of 2011, 30,000 students in Georgia dropped out of high school, and 25%  in our country do not graduate. Through Team Babineaux I am asking everyone to take 95 seconds to sign up, pledge to tutor or read or mentor at  The 95 seconds to sign up then spend time with young people or children at any school, church, club or organization can make a difference on whether a student graduates or drops out from high school,”  said Babineaux whose NFL jersey number is 95.

The Atlanta Falcons has selected star Defensive Tackle, Jonathan Babineaux to serve as the United Way’s Team NFL representative.

United Way’s TEAM NFL is a volunteer group of civic-minded, college-educated, NFL players committed to helping United Way in its effort to recruit one million volunteer readers, tutors and mentors—a key strategy for cutting the high school dropout rate in half by 2018.

In his quest to recruit volunteer pledges to tutor, read or mentor, Babineaux has launched a “Team Babineaux” pledge drive and invites everyone to sign up at and become part of “Team Babineaux.”

As a representative of TEAM NFL, Babineaux has been tasked with the goal to recruit 3,000 volunteer pledges for the United Way.

A “Team Babineaux” of student interns has  also been formed to assist Babineaux. MeShae’ Hankerson, a graduate student at Georgia State University from Waynesboro, Georgia, is Team Babineaux’s Social Media Intern;  Hankerson represented Team Babineaux at the United Way Youth Empowerment Summit held in Washington, D.C. in June. Giving is Living | MatchingMillions Launches With Partners | Organizations Should Have Box Office Budgets

June 29, 2012

Matching Millions — It’s no secret bloggers are trendsetters. It seems we have become the be all to end all for brands. Can a blogger help match millions when it comes to supporting organizations with a community not necessarily known for being philanthropic . Keep in mind we said “known,” as in not promoted through media.

Yalanda P. Lattimore,

Philanthropic African Americans get short end of the buzz when it comes their giving.  We intend to shine a light on givers and opportunities to give by continuing a Friday campaign. Formerly known as BlackFridayGiving, our campaign continues with the launch of #MatchingMillions. We are partnering with organizations, financial bloggers, and online communities to create buzz and match millions increasing the numbers of dollars, volunteers, followers and the like.

Giving is living at  Philanthropy in African American communities takes on a different tone and quite frankly requires a different language to engage giving.  Engagement goes beyond stats to find a realistic appeal for African Americans to get and stay involved.

African Americans are visual and appreciate the satisfaction of seeing immediately how their giving is received and utilized.  We intend to provide such with #MatchingMillions, a Friday campaign to encourage giving while living and spending. #MatchingMillions will add a consciousness to every dollar spent on hair and entertainment.  Followers will simply be encouraged to match millions spent over the weekend.

Organizations should have box office budgets.  Weekend movies topping at the box office split revenues derived from some four to five thousand communities. At post time, the top movie was Brave banking $66,323,594 from 4,164 screens aka communities out of a hundred films playing around the country.  Within these communities, Hosea Feed the Hungry tells us that 50 million Americans will be hungry tonight. Of that, 17M are children of which 600K of them live in Atlanta. The impact to serve immediate need lies within the budgets and volunteers.  We can impact budgets of organizations by #MatchingMillions.  Matching the average movie ticket could stamp out hunger.

Each Friday as you follow the buzz, look for #MatchingMillions hashtag in our timeline and headlines for opportunities to give and impact the needs of our community.

As you may know, you will also see #MatchingMillions on Mondays as we address household economics and personal finance to help get your money right to increase living while we increase your giving.

We are happy to welcome the following partners to #MatchingMillions.  Hosea Feed the Hungry serves as our first organization partner, and we have encourage two of our regular sponsors to join the efforts.  Please follow them on twitter and enjoy their content contributions at

Formerly BlackFridayGiving, #MatchingMillions connects followers directly with organizations. Millions refers to numbers and consist of but not limited to monies contributed direct to organizations, volunteers, web visits, and followers to impact needs of our communities.  Additionally, we encourage our sponsors to give back and join the force of #MatchingMillions.
