Giving is Living @DryerBuzz.com | MatchingMillions Launches With Partners | Organizations Should Have Box Office Budgets
June 29, 2012
Matching Millions – It’s no secret bloggers are trendsetters. It seems we have become the be all to end all for brands. Can a blogger help match millions when it comes to supporting organizations with a community not necessarily known for being philanthropic . Keep in mind we said “known,” as in not promoted through media.

Yalanda P. Lattimore, DryerBuzz.com
Philanthropic African Americans get short end of the buzz when it comes their giving. We intend to shine a light on givers and opportunities to give by continuing a Friday campaign. Formerly known as BlackFridayGiving, our campaign continues with the launch of #MatchingMillions. We are partnering with organizations, financial bloggers, and online communities to create buzz and match millions increasing the numbers of dollars, volunteers, followers and the like.
Giving is living at DryerBuzz.com. Philanthropy in African American communities takes on a different tone and quite frankly requires a different language to engage giving. Engagement goes beyond stats to find a realistic appeal for African Americans to get and stay involved.
African Americans are visual and appreciate the satisfaction of seeing immediately how their giving is received and utilized. We intend to provide such with #MatchingMillions, a Friday campaign to encourage giving while living and spending. #MatchingMillions will add a consciousness to every dollar spent on hair and entertainment. Followers will simply be encouraged to match millions spent over the weekend.
Organizations should have box office budgets. Weekend movies topping at the box office split revenues derived from some four to five thousand communities. At post time, the top movie was Brave banking $66,323,594 from 4,164 screens aka communities out of a hundred films playing around the country. Within these communities, Hosea Feed the Hungry tells us that 50 million Americans will be hungry tonight. Of that, 17M are children of which 600K of them live in Atlanta. The impact to serve immediate need lies within the budgets and volunteers. We can impact budgets of organizations by #MatchingMillions. Matching the average movie ticket could stamp out hunger.
Each Friday as you follow the buzz, look for #MatchingMillions hashtag in our timeline and headlines for opportunities to give and impact the needs of our community.
As you may know, you will also see #MatchingMillions on Mondays as we address household economics and personal finance to help get your money right to increase living while we increase your giving.
We are happy to welcome the following partners to #MatchingMillions. Hosea Feed the Hungry serves as our first organization partner, and we have encourage two of our regular sponsors to join the efforts. Please follow them on twitter and enjoy their content contributions at DryerBuzz.com

New Web Site MostSpirited.com Judges Most Spirit – Raising Grant Money for College Students
March 4, 2009
A new interactive Web site aims to use the Internet to engage college communities in friendly competition while raising money for one-time student grants.
School spirit is measured by the number of users from a given school who become affiliated with MostSpirited.com. School spirit percentages are calculated from enrollment statistics provided by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).
Much media attention has focused on the current economic situation and students’ reduced ability to access loans for college. This comes on the heels of rising tuition costs in recent years.
“So many people love their college or university. School rivalries bring people together — and why not come together and have fun raising money for college students who are notoriously preoccupied with making ends meet, and, in light of the economy, under even more pressure to perform well academically,” MostSpirited.com President JL Santos said.
MostSpirited.com currently features two contests: “the Most Spirited photo,” and a creative writing piece that answers the question “What do you value about your education?” First place winners in each category will win $1,000. Winners will be announced on May 5, 2009. There is no entry fee. For more information please visit: http://tinyurl.com/d5g7h8
MostSpirited.com membership is free for current students. Just by joining, five current college students will win $100 to help out with their educational expenses. Alumni and other “spirited” community members pay a $5 membership fee that goes towards providing grants to college students and counts as a vote for their school on the Top 10 list. Alumni and community members will have the opportunity to win the grand prize: an all-inclusive Caribbean vacation for two! Other MostSpirited.com prizes include a Nintendo Wii(TM) and an Apple iPod(R).
MostSpirited.com is in Beta mode and accepting suggestions for what the “Most Spirited” campus should win in the 2009-2010 academic year.
