terriewilliams.com — In Black Pain, Terrie Williams, identifies emotional pain—which uniquely and profoundly affects the Black experience—as the root of lashing out through desperate acts of crime, violence, drug and alcohol abuse, eating and shopping, gambling, and sex. Few realize these destructive acts are symptoms of our inner sorrow.

Black people are dying. Everywhere we turn, in the faces we see and the headlines we read, we feel in our gut that something is wrong, but we don’t know what it is. It’s time to recognize it and work through our trauma.

Is now a good time to get Real Estate License? – Britta Rivera | Frankel & Giles | Monday Money

August 2, 2010

As the Director of Sales & Recruiting at Weichert Realtors-Frankel & Giles, many have asked if this is the right time to get a real estate license. My answer is yes! If you believe the real estate stories, in the media about the current state of the real estate industry, they would make you think this is not true. However, in reality, this is the BEST time to get licensed!

People will always need somewhere to live, whether they chose to buy or rent and this will never change. The housing market has shifted, but agents are adjusting which is resulting in their continued success. With low interest rates and huge discounts being offered, shoppers are out in full swing looking to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity.

If you are self-motivated, dedicated, hard working, and a social networking expert, real estate could be the exact thing you need to consider.

Seeing is Believing: A Year Later: Why Henry Louis Gates Jr. Went-Off on Police Sgt. James Crowley Causing His Arrest | VideoBuzz

July 18, 2010

Buzz it

Seeing is Believing — While watching a documentary called “A Place of Our Own” by Filmmaker Stanley Nelson (2004), on the screen pops Henry Louis Gates Jr. speaking about a fear of being arrested.  In the film Gates says “many of us engage in actions to prevent racism from occurring.”  He goes on to explain about living in his fear of living in his neighborhood.

Watch with player above or use video alternative

The documentary “A Place of Our Own” appears to be a 2004 release.  To our surprise and purely coincidental, at post time, this week is the one year anniversary of Gates July 16 2009 arrest in Cambridge, Mass in a place of his own.  Did Gates go off on Police Sgt. James Crowley because he had already “engaged in actions to prevent racism from occurring,” but still it occurred?

Imaging that, succeeding while Black, did Gates live with a fear of living in his own home?

About A Place of Our Own

Filmmaker Stanley Nelson takes a nostalgic look at a rare phenomenon — the black-oriented middle-class resort community of Oaks Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, where Nelson and his family summered for 40 years. Via intimate stories of other African-Americans who vacationed there, he paints a vivid portrait of a sector of society that, far from being disenfranchised, put down roots in a largely white vacation area and has remained for generations.
