Contrary to Popular Tweets: Twitter is SEARCH | Only Search Engine People Sit and Watch | Learn.DryerBuzz
December 24, 2011
You have no idea how many times I have had to answer this question, “what is twitter?”
As a modern day Tubman leading people across the great digital divide, it is now my challenge to help people become smarter with the use of their smart phones. There is nothing worst than a person responding with “I don’t know,” while holding a smart phone.
Even if you don’t have a smart phone and still carry an older version — don’t be dumb, call somebody. Do a mobile shout-out and get an answer. I digress. This is suppose to be a post about twitter and not human behavior. Again that’s my inner Tubman. Sometimes I can be a Bullet In the Chamber Holla! — when it comes to technology.
I hear Tubman used to shoot people who wanted to go back. Tweet that!
As a twitter veteran, there are a ton of ways to explain twitter, but this morning the idea bouncing around in my head became clearer.
I have long since expressed my opinion that twitter missed their mark in the grand scheme of themes as it relates to how humans interact in social media. Also baffled by the way Google tries to compete with twitter and Facebook. While twitter continues to play roulette with the men in charge, we’re left to figuring it out and making it do what it do. They on the other hand continue to jack up my favorite part of twitter — search.
This might or might not come as a surprise, but twitter is SEARCH. It is the one search engine users watch and engage in continuously.
Occasionally and at varying speeds, people like me feed it. I have fed twitter a total of 74,869 tweets (at post time) under just one account. Comparatively, since around 2008, I only posted about 5,000 blog posts at DryerBuzz.com. Kinda got bored with blogging 2009 and 2010.
What twitter is now, used to be beholding to Google. At one point in history, Google launched alerts for search results. We all created alerts for ourselves, our brands, and the people we stalk. But then came twitter. Stalking and feeding our narcissism became easier.
Communicating became easier too. Before DryerBuzz.com can send out a clipping to those we blog about or a Google alert is launched, we receive a thank you and a retweet via twitter. That is how to make twitter do what it do. Do we still need that intern?
Twitter is SEARCH. Whether you read only your timeline and mentions OR if like us and need a TweetDeck screen in every room — you are using twitter for search. This is the one up they have on Google.
Me personally, I want the headline before it’s dry. Yes Google is quick about adding new content to search. They also have RSS readers and buzz and such. But with twitter, I control the search engine. And guess what? The results look like me all day, everyday, 24/7. Tweet that!
When the topic is really interesting, I can pause the world and have a conversation about it with as many as is willing to participate. Hmm should Google add comments to search results? Let’s not give them any ideas.
Oh wait Google did create Google Plus which is minus us at the moment. I have yet to see Google Plus among sharing or blogging tools. Are we missing something? In the meantime, will let early adopters and tech segregationists have Google Plus for another year or two. Some of us are still fascinated with the free world of twitter. Twitter might also be the last frontier of privacy. Tweet that!
Twitter is SEARCH. But wait — how come twitter does not yet understand its stake in the game is SEARCH? We need our archives beyond hash tags. In fact, I think someone else came up with twitter’s search app which they later purchased and incorporated. They also later purchased TweetDeck which really made twitter the search revolution that it is and what others would like to copy.
Facebook recently launched something called a timeline where we can quickly access a friends postings archived by year. But how come I can’t easily browse back through my 74,869 entries on twitter to find one of my most brilliant ideas OR better manage followers without 3rd party products. (note: I actually tweet 3 more times before this point in post).
For a minute, and by minute I mean temporary basis, Google captured tweets in real time. During which time some of us actually began to sit and watch results in Google. None the less, Google soon abandoned the idea and thus it is back to sitting and watching twitter.
Twitter is SEARCH. Tweet that! Twitter is a place to search and dominate worldwide conversation. Every tweet, mention, and retweet is a search result delivered to you at your request. Go ahead and deny it. We know you don’t want to be considered as someone addicted to or interacts (waists time) in social media OR someone who stares at a search engine all day.
But let me ask, did you come by this blog post organically OR via twitter? Don’t lie. We can see you.
Tweet that!

Teach Me How to Twitter | #teachmehowtotwitter | 140 Tweets To Learn How To Twitter | Learn.DryerBuzz.com
November 14, 2011
Learn.DryerBuzz.com — Every now and again one will find a hashtag (popular subject of discussion on twitter) sitting in a stream like a tumble weed sitting in the middle of a desert. The least bit of movement can get it going again.
When a follower said to me, “can you teach me how to twitter,” I said sure, just follow the buzz @DryerBuzz and download a copy of #27Answers also known as 27 Answers to FAQs About Social Media and Networking. But “teach me how to twitter” had such a ring to it that it reminded me of “teach me how to dougie.” I decided to check twitter to see if it was in fact an actual hashtag. There it was sitting in a twitter search like a tumble weed, to which I did the dougie a few times in excitement. This was a chance to get it moving again. Using the hashtag, I began to tweet a few tips and the tag caught on in my stream. After a few retweets and questions, traffic and sales began to increase for #27Answers. Now I want to keep it going. I love sharing and help followers build their twitter influence. But can I make it to 140 tweets? Follow the buzz to see. Once I reach 140, I will compile the tweets in this post as an archive and make it available at Learn.DryerBuzz.com If you want to learn how to twitter, bookmark this post and follow @DryerBuzz #teachmehowtotwitter.DryerBuzz #teachmehowtotwitter Follow leader in your industry; pick tag in industry.
