Lawsuit claims Texas police shake down African-American or Latino drivers
May 5, 2009
CNN.com — Roderick Daniels was traveling through eastern Texas in October 2007 when, he says, he was the victim of a highway robbery by police. Now Daniels and other motorists who have been stopped by Tenaha police are part of a lawsuit seeking to end what plaintiff’s lawyer David Guillory calls a systematic fleecing of drivers passing through the town of about 1,000.
Guillory, who practices in nearby Nacogdoches, Texas, estimates authorities in Tenaha seized $3 million between 2006 and 2008, and in about 150 cases — virtually all of which involved African-American or Latino motorists — the seizures were improper.

Buzzing the Blogs: Negative Media Imaging of African American Males
April 19, 2009
VHardyPhD’s Blog – vhardyphd.wordpress.com
Blog Excerpt — As I was watching a news broadcast (KOAA.com), a negative media image was shown that reflected the African American male population. Therefore, I submitted the following email to the general manager of the station:
“I am submitting this email to express my concern about the 6pm news broadcast that took place on 4/17/09. There was a news clip about a carjacking with a male and female who were eventually captured. The lead in to this news story was the news anchor with an image next to him of an African American male’s hands in handcuffs… (while the criminals in this case were not African American)”

Countdown begins… Escape from “the perception” of Black America
CNN.com – A New Year’s Day shooting in which a subway police officer fired a deadly shot into the back of an unarmed man has the San Francisco Bay Area demanding answers as authorities appeal for patience.
Attorney John Burris called the shooting “unconscionable” and said he filed a $25 million claim with BART on Tuesday, alleging wrongful death and violation of civil rights by use of excessive force. BART has 45 days to respond, Burris said.
