17th Street Art Fair Returns to Atlantic Station

Atlanta’s live, work and play destination in Midtown Atlanta will host the second annual 17th Street Art Fair, Saturday and Sunday, September 27 & 28, 2008. Over 100 artists and fine crafts booths will be showcased along the tree-lined streets of Atlantic Station’s Central Shopping District. “The beautifully designed street scape of Atlantic Station serves as an ideal backdrop for these exciting exhibitors’ heartfelt artistic expressions”, said Dann Jackson, Executive Director of The 17th Street Art Fair, LLC.

2008 Bank of America Atlanta Football Classic Schedule Announced

Tennessee State and Florida A&M Universities to square-off for 20th anniversary of “The Classic”

With the new theme “History Happens Here. Play Your Part.”, a full slate of activities and events promises to offer something for everyone. Ticket prices for “The Classic” start at $10 and are on sale now at www.atlantafootballclassic.com, the Georgia Dome ticket office, www.ticketmaster.com or the participating schools’ ticket offices. Proceeds from the game serve to fund the 100 Black Men of Atlanta’s Project Success initiative; a youth development program that stresses academic achievement and career guidance.

Another Way Out (AWO), Inc. announces its 18th Annual Southwest Music Festival

Scheduled to Appear: Byron Cage, Darlene McCoy, Atlanta’s own Destiny Praise, LINA, Sol Factor, Algebra, ZAPP and many more. All Acts Subject To Change Without Notice. The festival is slated to showcase two stages of live music, an extensive Children’s Village, the Back in the Day Car Club Car Show and Contest, FREE health screenings, fireworks and much more! Food and merchandise vendors will round out the festival experience with a variety of delectable tastes and unique items.

This year’s SW Music Festival is sponsored in part by Radio One of Atlanta, Fulton County Government, United Way of Atlanta, Georgia Power, Advance Auto Parts, Ticket Annex, Publix Supermarkets, AT&T, Waste Management and Blush-bags.

Another Way Out (AWO), Inc. is a non-profit organization specializing in mentoring, intervention and after school programs for youth ages 8-18. The “My Black Is Beautiful” main event—featuring beauty bars, hair salon services, makeover stations, manicures, massage, yoga, meditation, health pavilions, and fashion contests—will be open from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday July 26 at The Foundry at Puritan Mill, 916 Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard. Registration opens at 11 a.m. Admission and all services are free.

Atlanta IKAM Productions will present its second run of the 1975 award-winning unique nominated stage play by Ntozake Shange, FOR COLORED GIRLS WHO CONSIDERED SUICIDE WHEN THE RAINBOW IS ENUF on Friday August 22 – Sunday, September 7 at midtown’s The 14th Street Playhouse – 173 14th Street Atlanta GA 30309.

Directed and choreographed by pop iconic performer, Jasmine Guy, the production marks the actress’ directorial debut. The Fall 2008 production includes cast members Crystal Fox, Terry Burrell, Nevaina Rhodes, Yakini Horn, and Danielle Deadwyler. With each cast member symbolized by a rainbow of colors, the play recounts the history and struggles of African-American women in the United States through a series of twenty choreographed poetic vignettes relating to mature audiences.
