DryerBuzzonWAOK | Classic Man Carlos Coleman pays tribute to friend and fashion icon Matthew A Weaver Jr

July 5, 2015

DryerBuzzonWAOK — Blogging comes to radio weekends from Atlanta with DryerBuzz editor Yalanda P Lattimore.  Listen as Yalanda @DryerBuzz moderates a great weekend debate with double dose of buzz, Saturdays 6-8, and Sundays 1-4pm.

This week we got on our soapbox sure enough but before that, we paid tribute as the fashion world paused for the sunset of Atlanta style icon Matthew A Weaver Jr. who passed June 27, 2015.  DryerBuzz was there to capture moments from Weaver’s celebration of life services and wanted to know more about this #ClassicMan.  We reached out to Carlos Coleman, friend and mentored by Weaver.  Coleman gave us such an insight into the life and style of Weaver and what it means to be a #ClassicMan from Atlanta and beyond.

After graduating from college to become a teacher, Matthew quickly changed career paths and decided to follow his passion: fashion. He obtained his fashion niche in New York City over 20 years ago and migrated to Atlanta where he worked in a men’s store in Buckhead. Growing frustrated of the fashion market dictating what men should wear, Matthew focused his eyes toward custom wear prompting him to strike out and launch his own store called “Manstyles.”

DryerBuzzonWAOK | Two Fathers, One #LittleWhiteLie, One big #GreatDebate | Listen

June 28, 2015

Fourth Sundays we open the debate on #fatherhood.  In current state of fatherhood, our foundation is shaky at it’s core.  While our regular panel recuperates from Father’s Day, still fielding calls, emails, tweets and more — we decided to ask listeners and follower to watch a movie, a documentary.  A story of two fathers and one little white lie.

In my own rested state, I turned to Netflix and there it was — a recommendation of a documentary “Little White Lie.”   Blown away by the all too real story of “Lacy”, my tweets and instagram were soon out of hand. This has to be our next debate.  We encourage our following to watch. Judging by your feedback, you’ve seen and now let’s debate.

Call in 404-892-2703 — open lines on DryerBuzz on WAOK #fatherhood #LittleWhiteLie

About Little White Lie

Little White Lie tells Lacey Schwartz’s story of growing up in a typical upper-middle-class Jewish household in Woodstock, NY, with loving parents and a strong sense of her Jewish identity — despite the open questions from those around her about how a white girl could have such dark skin. She believes her family’s explanation that her looks were inherited from her dark-skinned Sicilian grandfather. But when her parents abruptly split, her gut starts to tell her something different.
At age of 18, she finally confronts her mother and learns the truth: her biological father was not the man who raised her, but a black man named Rodney with whom her mother had had an affair. Afraid of losing her relationship with her parents, Lacey doesn’t openly acknowledge her newly discovered black identity with her white family.

In other words, mother’s — you are not the father.  Once delivered, callers then had a chance to Buzz it or Bash it in response.

Then, we opened the flood gates on most talked about topic of the week, if not the year.  Caller, Brother Raymond took the challenge of the SoapBox segment.  He emptied his SoapBox on the new strong Black woman — Rachel Dolezal — she’s black she’s white — and a great debate followed.
