Photo Poll: Stunt’N Like My Daddy – BalloonBoy vs News Media?
October 19, 2009
October 19, 2009 AM — Slow Your Scroll Photo Poll: Should the balloon boy story be over and done? Why the witch hunt into the lives of the Heene family. We gotta ask, who’s Stunt’n like my daddy Balloonboy or Media? The news calls it a hoax and a a publicity stunt in conclusion to the Sheriff’s investigation. But the Sheriff said his investigation was prompted by and then darn near quoted the news. Again who’s stunt’n?
Call us paranoid, but normally in America where the forefathers warned [never shall the people have power (paraphrased)], when a story is hyped in local or national news, sometimes a regulation or law seem to follow. The Heene’s have been on television. Therefore they have been classified as publicity seekers, hence the perception that any and all things said and done are to get on TV again. But in this mix, who’s losing their audience every day and looking for grandeur and survival? TV, radio or the Henne’s?
Did National news pick up the local story and in seconds, without fact checking or expert consulting, put a balloon chase on our TV in fear America might turn to social media for the buzz. The networks proceeded to find any available person with #balloon knowledge, where in which one balloon pilot told Sean Hannity on live “radio,” the balloon in question could not carry a 50lb child and why were they still chasing it and not looking for said child. So why did they remain with the balloon? Certainly not your fathers fact check investigating news anymore.
Meanwhile some (including us) speculated that BalloonBoy was probably hiding because of possible rage in the household. The child’s anxiety was confirmed when he threw up on live TV – but no investigation to the mental well being of the children. Video the family submitted to media or police did show the father “going off” about the release of the balloon. But if he was that upset about losing the balloon, how could he be stunt’n in such an elaborate scheme media is portraying now?
The story appears to be great publicity for local and national news. No one they are not asking the follow up questions we want to hear. Yes, BalloonBoy said this was for a show? But weren’t they creating a video at the time? Hence “a show?” Surely a youtuber or podcaster would understand. There is an issue at hand and possibility in the home as have seen on TV, but are we deflating the wrong balloon? Cases like this set precedents. What’s to come?
Who do you think is Stunt’n like my daddy Balloonboy or Media?
Update 10.19.09 8:45AM: via Sheriff: Media Outlet May Be In On Balloon Hoax | foxnews.com
“Documents show that a media outlet has agreed to pay money to the Heenes with regard to the balloon incident, Alderden said. He didn’t name the media outlet, but said it was a show that blurs “the line between entertainment and news.” It wasn’t clear whether the deal was signed before or after the alleged hoax, or whether that media outlet was a possible conspirator.”

Scroll Poll: What key factor(s) sustains African American apathy?
August 3, 2009
At post time (Mon Aug 3 2009 aprx 10:15 AM) having observed African Americans watching Black in America (a feature of CNN); in the midst of attending selected 2009 conferences and conventions; while assisting with creating a buzz for a 69 year old African American male WALKING to DC to dramatize the urgent need for African-centered education for children of African descent; while at the same time, finding out a national food chain decides for the past two years that during Black Expo is the perfect time to do maintenance on their location. All of this in the wake of our President running to the aid of his friend Gates in an overblown police incident of which they settled with cold beer on the White House lawn. Long sentence, but without apathy, one takes notice and gets involved in a whole lot of stuff. For many these things that happen becomes a conversation. For others it becomes a source for anger. For a select few it becomes their resolve, because either they are going to fix it or benefit from it. To fix it – American American Apathy – where do we start?

Slow Your Scroll Poll: Do birds of a feather flock together when single or married?
June 6, 2009
Slow Your Scroll Poll: Do birds of a feather flock together when single or married? The Pew Research Center which continually tests the climate of public opinion through various polls, surveys, and consensus reports said in 2007 that ”even though a decreasing percentage of the adult population is married, most unmarried adults say they want to marry, ranking “faithfulness:” and “happy sexual relationships” higher than “bearing children.” A clear sign of the times since children seem to come before, during, and after marriage these days. It also says “married adults are more satisfied with their lives than are unmarried adults. “ Lastly, the report tells us “marriage is exerting less influence over how adults organize their lives.” We say all this to ask, what is your status among your inner circle?

Slow Your Scroll Poll: In the wake of AIG and public criticism, should Organizations scale back galas?
April 10, 2009
It’s that time of year – Spring – to choose an array of ball gowns as invitations start to flow for upcoming charity, foundation, or organization galas. But in the wake of AIG, public criticism and audit, is it time to scale it back? While attending a gala usually has a consciencious effort or cause associated, could benefactors benefit more sans the gala? Does the same public scrutiny extend to national organizations in a downward economy?

January 30, 2009
Stop the Madness
First the country hits rock bottom and elects President Barack Obama. Now the republican party headed to its grave, elects Michael Steele as Republican National Committee Chair. As one CSpan caller put it “is this another RNC gimmick?” He was referring to Alaska Governor Sara Palin’s run as VP.
CNN reports Michael Steele, a former Maryland lieutenant governor, was elected chairman of the Republican National Committee on Friday.
Sorry world, that hand basket is lit and on its way to hell. No stopping now.
