Living Atlanta Style – Streetz 94.5 FM, Metro PCS, G.M.E. Sports Lounge announces the ATL Super Stage headliners: Tex James,  Myko Montana, Ying Yang Twins, La Da Booman, Lil Chuckee, Pastor Troy, Big Bank Black, Jose Quapo, Dj UNK, Charlie Boy Gang, Young Tone and Yung Ralph. Saturday, May 25th, 2013 and Sunday, May 26th, 2013 thousands of Atlanta residents will attend a free concert brought to you the by the best in Atlanta.

Special Guest Performances will also grace the Super Stage. DJ Holiday of Streetz 94.5 FM will broadcast live both days.  Held in the Historic Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (From Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard to Paschal Drive), attendees are in for a family oriented entertaining weekend.

GME Sports Lounge & Grill located at 899 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr in the west corridor to downtown.  Hosting close to three hundred patrons, GME Sports Lounge & Grill Fully equipped with 30 Flat Screens, 6 projectors, and 5 computer stations, G.M.E. Sports Lounge & Grill simultaneously showcases sports events from all over the world. This location was carefully designed with the sports lover in mind!

All attendees will be able to enjoy the well-designed VIP lounge and Private Bar. Home of the “Wild West Wings”, the menu is filled with a wide variety of delectable selections from Tapas to game time favorites!

The MLK Jr. Renaissance Festival will celebrate Atlanta’s cultural diversity while providing a setting for multi cultural entertainment and information sharing on topics important to locals such as financial literacy, child development, cultural traditions and healthcare.

Hair She Buzz – God has been prepping me for this position since I was a child. Growing up in the 60-70′s in Tuscaloosa, Alabama…getting in fight after fight(s), because our classmates were picking on me and my brother, Eddie, SOLELY because we “look different”.

Next there was Women’s Right’s. Women wanted to have equal pay and equal benefits for equal work, that their counterparts(men) were given and were openly denied (still being denied in 2013).

I also went through, African American Rights/Civil Rights Act, which banned discrimination based on “race, color, religion, or national origin” in employment practices and public accommodation (for some reason our children run straight to the back of the bus to sit down).

I have also lived through the Disability Discrimination Act of 1995, it is an Act that makes it unlawful to discriminate against disabled persons in connection with employment, the provisions of goods, facilities and services or the disposal or management of premises, to make provision about the employment of disabled person’s; and to establish a National Disability Council.

Now, I am living through the Same-Sex marriage in the United States, where the Federal Government says, the legal issues surrounding same-sex marriage in the United States are complicated by the nation’s federal system of government. Prior to 1996, the federal government did not define marriage; any marriage recognized by a state was recognized by the federal government, even if that marriage was not recognized by one or more other states (as was the case with interracial marriage before 1967 due to anti-miscegenation laws).

With the passage of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in 1996, a marriage was explicitly defined in federal law as a union of one man and one woman. The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), enacted September 21, 1996, is a United States federal law that restricts federal marriage benefits and required inter-state marriage recognition to only opposite-sex marriages in the United States.

The law passed both houses of Congress by large majorities and was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on September 21, 1996. Section 3 of DOMA codifies the non-recognition of same-sex marriages for all federal purposes, including insurance benefits for government employees, Social Security survivors’ benefits, immigration, and the filing of joint tax returns. Clinton and key legislators have changed their positions and advocated DOMA’s repeal.

The Obama administration announced in 2011 that it had determined that section 3 was unconstitutional and, though it would continue to enforce the law, it would no longer defend it in court. In response, the Republican leadership of the House of Representatives instructed the House General Counsel to defend the law in place of the Department of Justice. Section 3 of DOMA has been found unconstitutional in eight federal courts, including the First and Second Circuit Court of Appeals, on issues including bankruptcy, public employee benefits, estate taxes, and immigration.

The U.S. Supreme Court has heard an appeal in one of those cases, United States v. Windsor, with oral arguments on March 27, 2013. You would think that the Civil Rights Act has our backs, The Preamble was designed and signed for ALL PEOPLE, hence “We the people of the United States” It was pertaining to the vast population concerning the individual rights and equality to ALL people.

What this is saying to me is that in 2013 individuals are still being discriminated against because of difference. Instead of accepting and appreciating one’s difference we are being discriminated against. This country was built on blood, sweat and tears and death.

I have nothing MORE nothing less to offer you while I am the SUT GLBT Division President, EXCEPT the same toils that my fore-parents did for me. I am standing on their shoulders.

I am also standing on what Thomas Jefferson so eloquent stated, “I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.”

It IS time for a change!
